About the book >.>.> Throughout the history of any nation there are always a few individuals who stand out from the crowd; whether they are known for a heroic or criminal deed or because of an early demise the reason varies. Egypt is no different. Many people have heard of Tutankhamun and his wonderful tomb discovered in 1922 by Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon; one of the most important archaeological finds of the twentieth century. The tomb produced thousands of objects many of gold catching the attention of not only archaeologists but lay people alike and was one of the first sites to be excavated in a truly scientific manner. Carter insisted all objects were photographed and recorded in situ and then when removed photographed and drawn again producing detailed records of all the tomb contents. These elaborate records are currently at the Griffith Institute Oxford’ and show the dedication of Carter to the project. Although the tomb contents especially the golden mask are world famous most people know very little about the King himself and his life as an individual. This led me to write The Boy Behind the Mask a biography of the King’s life and his reign rather than focusing on his death and burial.
