About the book >.>.> I am delighted ‘Glasgow Girls’ is being presented. Som may find it surprising to see the high quality of work o the women artists and designers included in this book There is great need for the book and it is remarkable it is being done at long last. Although there have been excellent women artists and designers from Glasgow Scottish women have never been very assertive at promoting their work. In fact until the 1988 Exhibition “Glasgow Girls”: Women in the Art School 1880-1920′ at Glasgow School of Art I had never exhibited my work in the School. I remember my first day at the Glasgow School of Art in 1920. At Hamilton Academy my art mistress Penelope Beaton had called my father in to ask him to send me on to the Art School for training and he had agreed. I was so excited and nervous and carrying so much that I got stuck in Rennie Mackintosh’s swinging door! I must have looked confused and a tall girl came up and asked me if she could help. She was Margaret Nairn (d. 18th May 1990) who later spent a lot of time painting in Morocco and we’ve been friends ever since. (MP)
