About the book >.>.> I come from a family of makers-from sewers to graphic designers to quilters” says Zarinah. “Watch- ing the women and men in my family make things created an almost intuitive sensibility towards the elements of cloth in all its forms. I remember having a bead loom that I had to dress with string as an 11 year old. I find it amazing that thread yarn and string are these deceivingly simple elements that can construct garments tapestries cloth jewellery. I really just love feeling the texture of yarn in all its various forms- cotton wool silk and the man-made!” Her work is deeply influenced byvels in her early years: “I remember sights sounds colours and textures from West Africa and India. I still hold mem- ories of open-air markets women and men dressed in fabrics that swirled with graphic strokes patterns and bright colours. My work often starts out as mistakes and big messes that form from taking chances revis ing and ultimately recovering into new possibilities. Zarinah recently graduated from Thomas Jef ferson University in Philadelphia where she worked on floor looms and jacquard looms exploring various yarns and materials and dyeing and printmaking methods.
