About the book >.>.> Ruthin presented the first solo exhibition of the textile art of Primmy Chorley in 2001. Since then we have regularly been asked when we would be showing more of her work. Her textile narratives connected with many people in many different ways; a universal connection with life and home exerting a deep emotional pull. Primmy’s ’embroideries which she regards as her ‘wallpaper present us with a magical journey through a life. At that time Dr Jennifer Harris in 2001 Head of Textiles and Deputy Director of the Whitworth Gallery in Manchester contextualised Primmy’s work in an insightful catalogue essay. They were poignant words that still hold true in particular her insight into the deeper messages and stylistic references that inform theork. In the spirit of Primmy’s philosophy of reclaim and reuse we reprint it here. Since 2001 Primmy Chorley has continued her journey portraying the magic of Another World. In this publication exhibition curator June Hill has chosen to highlight Primmy’s words and also present her own particular thoughts on how the magic began and how another world [was] made real’ through Primmy’s stitching. Curating an exhibition of work that is so personal has many challenges. Here June Hill has with an eloquent and light touch opened a door onto Primmy’s world and her life’s work for us all to enjoy. We are deeply indebted to June for this and to Primmy for allowing and welcoming June and all of us into her world. Many people have worked on this project over a significant period of time-heartfelt thanks are due to all those who have helped with the journey of the exhibition to the gallery walls and to alt who have worked on this publication which will serve as both a testament and legacy of Primmy Chorley’s Another World (LL)
