About the book >.>.> There is a small ring above through which the ribbor dark green with dark red in between passes. The reverse has been inscribed with his name and other details but was originally plain. Consider- ing the small area it is remarkable what has been engraved on the reverse. The inscription is: Q.R.W.S.R./4TH V.B./STAFF SERGT. J. F. PINK. P.M./1883/21 YEARS SERVICE Pink also received Queen Victoria’s Volunteer Long Service Medal which he named round the rim: STAFF SERGT. J. F. PINK P.M. 4TH V.B. Q.W.S. REGT. 21 YEARS 1863-1883. INCLUE. He also had a miniature V.L.S. medal which he named in a similar manner. Corps The 19th or Borough of Lambeth Surrey Rifle Volunteers was established on 13th March 1860 largely through the efforts of one of the two local Members of Parliament William Roupell. On the amalgamation of other Surrey Corps the 19th in 1880 became the 8th Corps S.R.V. In 1883 it was linked with a county regiment and became the 4th Volunteer Battalion The Queen’s (Royal West Surrey Regiment). In 1908 it was retitled the 24th (County of Lon- don) Battalion. (SP)
