About the book >.>.> Interest in the art of Cosimo Tura has been steadily increasing since the beginning of the eighteenth century. A vast amount of material has been collected but no general picture of the artist has been formed and the number of real Tura monographs is surprisingly small. An independent presentation of his life and work thus seemed all the more necessary since this gives us the possibility of throwing more light on individual problems. The chief task was the establishment of a reasonably accurate chronology of Tura’s works. Starting from the few certain dates the works have been divided into a number of groups. The chronological order thus achieved is of necessity a reconstruction but at least it can lay claim to being ‘natural’ and logical. The Catalogue comprises all works by Tura that have been preserved together with the lost works as to the existence of which we have certain evidence. To make the trend of development clearer the Catalogue has been arranged chronologically whether the works in question have been preserved or not and without regard to their location or nature. (MP)
