About the book >.>.> Because some massage students have no prior experience in studying anatomy physiology or biology the initial purpose of this book is to describe the physical make-up of the body giving a broad introduction to the body’s physical functioning. The emphasis here is on the body systems and aspects most relevant to the dynamics of massage muscle activity stress response tension and relaxation and the effect of touch. This means primarily the muscular skeletal and nervous systems and the skin with reference also to the respiratory and cardiovascular systems (breathing and blood circulation). We will look at the interrelationships of all these aspects and connect them with the practical concerns of massage and the dynamics of stress and relaxation. We will follow the usual method of study which is to divide the body into its component functioning systems looking individually at each system. Keep in mind however that this is an artificial division for the purposes of study. The parts cannot function independently so we will also look at how they connect with and are interdependent with one another.
