About the book >.>.> Before I began this book I tried to read and learn as much as possible about the Lancaster and RAF Bomber Command. I read all the technical and historical information I could get my hands on about these great bombers and their crews. I attempted to absorb the stagger- ing numbers that represent the losses that the bomber force had taken during World War II. As an American I can never understand what it was like to be under the bombs of an enemy in my home to have been the target of those bombs or to have some nameless aviator try to kill me or my family. I actually had to be there before I could begin to understand the enor- mous price paid by the men and women of Britain and her allies in maintaining their massive air assault against Germany. My first trip to the UK was to make the photos for this book. I was struck by the memorials in every village from the first war? as well as World War II. Author Ron Dick and I were there during the VJ Day celebrations and I saw everywhere the display of pride and remembrance veterans of the war proudly wearing their decorations men and women.
