Unlike so many other small communities it has escaped the death of the village shop the school the village social life and clubs and remains an active thriving place. The main street still advertises the trades that have long served the villagers and Porlock is just as much ‘home’ as it has always been. The publication of this book will bring a great deal of pleasure to the people of the parish and to all those who have a connection with Porlock. There are few greater compliments a writer can pay than to produce a history book about the community in which they have grown up and the hard work involved in a task of this kind runs into years rather than months. Such a labour of love would only be undertaken by someone who has the deepest affection for his own roots the people he has lived with and the community they all share.
