I want my grandchildren to know that whatever the merits of our mandarins the Resistance was made up primarily of men like those I mention here: Raymond Mar?chal Charles the carpenter Poulou the p?tissier the Abb? Marchadoux of Sagelat ?mile Chateaurenaud the Marquis de Commarque and many others – in short all those of whom no one ever speaks nowadays. That probably is the reason why I have avoided falling into the trap of writing a historical account and why I have sought to recount my adventures in anecdotal form.
