About the book >.>.> Derby Station In the early 1830s three companies were jostling to establish a presence in Derby each from a different direction. At a Town Hall meeting in December 1835 chaired by the Mayor public approval was given for two of the companies – the North Midland with its proposed line to Leeds and the Birmingham & Derby Junction Railway – to meet head on rather than in separate termini. As the third company – the Midland Counties Railway from Leicester and Nottingham – also had a proposal for a terminus the Town Council suggested a joint through station for them all on land adjacent to the River Derwent at The Holmes.
