About the book >.>.> A proposal to open a large modern colliery at Dunkerton brought about extension of the branch to Limpley Stoke on the Wilts Somerset and Wey- mouth line. In common with other minor lines passenger services were withdrawn in 1915 being reinstated in 1923 due to public demand. This resurrection proved to be ill-founded and services were withdrawn for the second and final time in 1925. With the failure of the new colliery to produce the expected traffic the line became a railway backwater until the film crews arrived in 1952. This account traces the origins of the line against the background of the Somerset Coalfield and the Somerset- shire Coal Canal the complicated evolution of the Bristol and North Somerset Company and details the Camerton branch until the early years of the present century. The extension was known as the Camerton and Limpley Stoke Railway and the story of its construction development and eventual decline is also related. The physical features of the line are described in the form of a pictorial journey from Hallatrow to Limpley Stoke. Unfortunately there are Fa number of gaps in the photographic coverage as some of the railmotor halts are unrecorded but in view of the line’s relative obscurity the book is illus trated with a surprising number of attractive photographs supplemented by track plans and building drawings.
