About the book >.>.> CAPTAIN MAUCK THE OPERATIONS OFFICER PARKED HIS JEEP IN front of barracks 21 at Heathel and lit a cigarette. He paused in the doorway of room three and inhaled a long drag from his burning Chesterfield. Then he dropped his cigarette and ground it out. Giving a flick of the light switch he entered the room in his usual sarcastic manner. “All right you bastards first call hit the deck on your feet everybody up. Let’s go! Let’s go!” He crossed the room thoroughly shaking each of its occupants. Gene Coletti sat up in his bunk rubbed his eyes glanced at his watch. Four-twenty A.M. Such an early awakening could mean but one thing: a long hazardous mission deep into enemy ter- ritory. Gene glanced across the room at me reluctantly pushing the mass of blankets from my head. I looked in the mirror beside my bunk and saw the expression of one awakened from a trance. I rose to a sitting position and proceeded to mount the floor. When Terrell opened his eyes I tried some ill-timed facetious-ness. “Roll on thou dark and deep blue flak roll. Just think my friends we have been selected once again to fly five miles above the earth in weather only thirty degrees below zero and we will be alone with all of those beautiful black puffs around our plane.
