About the book >.>.> The illustrations of the caterpillars are from the original water-colour drawings by J. C. Dollman R.W.S. Of the eggs and chrysalids the former are from microphotographs by A. E. Tonge and drawings by Horace Knight and the latter from drawings by Horace Knight. Much of the descriptive matter has been based upon Mr. South’s text which included references to and assistance by other Naturalists whose work is hereby acknowledged. A special feature is a fully illustrated list of food-plants on which the eggs are laid and the caterpillars feed. Dr. Stovin has prepared an illustrated article on the rearing of butterflies from the egg caterpillar and chrysalis stages; a Foreword on the reasons for Classification of Butterflies into Families and Introductory Notes to each family. Dr. Stovin has also rendered valuable assistance in general Editorial work and advice. W. J. Stokoe’s compilation and arrangement of this volume has made it possible to add this important work to “The Wayside and Woodland Series.”
