The book looks at two families of braids: Peruvian braids traditionally used as slings for hunting or in war and Japanese braids known as Kumihimo and shows more than 50 different braid designs incorporating over 250 different patterns. Drawings beautifully photographed examples and the author’s unique system of diagrams give you all the information you need to explore endless variations of colour and texture. The equipment used to make the braids in this book ranges from small slotted boards to the traditional Japanese braiding stool known as the Maru Dai. There is also an easy technique using a card which can be taught to children as young as six and plans for making a cheap and simple braiding stool. The book shows flat round square and hollow braid designs and instruction progresses from the simplest 4-strand designs through 8- and 16-strand braids building on skills learned at the beginning.
