About the book >.>.> The catfishes contribute over 2000 species to the 20000 or so existing species of fishes in the world. We could therefore say that it is a big group in the entire fish “family.? It is very difficult to grasp their situation not only because of their num- bers but also because they are spread all over the world espe- cially in tropical areas. There are many catfish lovers among biologists because not only do they have so many attractive features but they also provide a wide range of informa- tion and are interesting subjects for study. In this chapter we would like to review how wide the range is and how variable the catfishes are in morphology and ecology. There are no definite theories yet about relationships of the catfishes but I would like to talk about the hypotheses that have already been established. (SP)
