About the book >.>.> The Shapwick Project began in October 1988 as a ten-year investigation into the evolution of settlement and landscape. This volume is one of three final publications to arise from that work. The first published in 2007 was a Society for Medieval Archaeology monograph that presented our findings in detail. That volume funded by English Heritage contains sections on methodology fieldwork excavations and finds. The third a pamphlet intended for schools and visitors is to follow shortly. The present volume places our detailed results into a wider historical and archaeological context and provided an opportunity to develop our ideas much further.
