About the book >.>.> The Shapwick Project began in October 1988 as a ten-year investigation into the evolution of settlement and landscape. This volume is one of three final publications to arise from that work. The first published in 2007 was a Society for Medieval Archaeology monograph that presented our findings in detail. That volume funded by English Heritage contains sections on methodology fieldwork excavations and finds. The third a pamphlet intended for schools and visitors is to follow shortly. The present volume places our detailed results into a wider historical and archaeological context and provided an opportunity to develop our ideas much further. To do so an additional two years of research were necessary and in many cases we have returned (MP)
