About the book >.>.> This revelation led to a whole new road of artistic pursuit. I quickly learned that the skills I had finely tuned from years of traditional bookbinding did not work on fabric journals. The predictable characteristics of paper such as “if you fold it it will crease no longer held true. My first fabric book was a sorry attempt to marry a paper book structure with cloth. The covers were rigid the pages were overstuffed with the wrong support material and it sprang open far more eagerly than it stayed closed. It was however the beginning of my journey to explore a whole new universe and my second book was much improved. As I took my growing stack of fabric journals along to paper book classes I taught I observed how quickly people became engaged with these soft little books. They turned and explored the pages with their fingers savoring the tiny details of stitching buttons and beads marveling at the explosion of color in the combinations of cloth. Fabric books simply beg to be touched and experienced through the hands as well as the eyes. My seduction turned to full-blown infatuation. and I have been in love with this art form ever since. The more fabric journals I made the more I discovered that I did not need to abandon the skills I acquired making paper books. I found so little instruction available for making fabric journals that I set out to create a collection of projects that would help other artists jump into this emerging craft.
