About the book >.>.> During the time I was writing this book terror gripped America while a nation hypnotically watched broad- casts of planes crashing into the World Trade Center in New York City the Pentagon in Washington D.C. and a field in rural Pennsylvania. Images of terrorist attacks collapsing buildings and fireballs repeated themselves hundreds of times on the instant re- play of television imprinting our hearts with fear and shocking the depths of our senses. The pictures of survivors firefighters police doc- tors and nurses that followed stirred our compassion and brought us together to mourn those who died in the days following the tragedy. Traumatized by the horror of what I saw and felt I went to my studio to try to make sense of my experiences. With profound sadness I painted the gray smoke and ashes I witnessed on September 11 2001 thinking of the thousands of souls who died on that day. A few days later I painted a frightening and chaotic image of a recurring nightmare I had about bloodshed mass devastation and my own death in a nuclear war. Soon after I returned to my studio to paint an image of an angel after hearing a man. (LL)
