About the book >.>.> The Trust owns the former S&D 7F freight locomotive No. 53808 which was built in 1925 to haul heavy freight trains over the steep gradients of the S&D and is one of twe survivors from a class that originally totalled eleven. Often called upon to cam her keep on the heavy passenger trains that ran in the summer on the S&D she is now called to perform that task regularly on the WSR. The Trust occasionally steams its second locomotive Peckett No. 1788 ‘Kilmersdon’ which used to work in the pit of the same name near Radstock. She was restored to working order at Butterley by the 7F Group who own No. 53809. The Trust also owns three original S&D coaches which are in various stages of restoration and a number of other items of rolling stock some of which had connections with the S&D. The Trust is active in collecting and publishing historical and anecdotal material on the SACD through its bi-monthly magazine ‘Pines Express’ and by way of special publications the latest of which are a special S&D video and commemorative audio tape. The Trust encourages modelling of the S&D organises the Annual Edington Model Railway exhibition and advises manufacturers on proposed S&D scale models. Station stewards act as a further link with those wishing to have more detailed knowledge about S&D locations and more recently some members are involved in the Somerset & Dorset Trackbed Trust to restore Midsomer Norton station to its former glory whilst a scheme to re-open some 11 miles of the former line between Shepton Mallet and Radstock with Millennium funding is being promoted by a Trust member.
