Ratcliff a liturgical scholar of international repute who left his mark on students throughout the world and also on the liturgical revisions of many Christian denomi- nations published most of his researches in article form. This volume brings together his most seminal papers for the use and benefit of students of worship and others who are concerned with the Church’s ministry. The papers included here cover the main fields of Christian liturgy: the early history of the Eucharistic Liturgy and of the Bap- tismal Liturgy the Liturgy of Ordination and as an appendix the Liturgy of the Book of Common Prayer. Together they serve as a review of the scope of liturgical development. Ratcliff gave priority to the encourage- ment of students of all traditions and at all stages of their education. The editors hope that this collection now republished in memory of a great scholar and teacher will serve the purposes that he cherished. Edward Craddock Ratcliff (1896-1967) was a priest who spent most of his ministry teach- ing. He was successively Vice-principal of Westcott House Fellow of Queen’s College Oxford Professor of Liturgical Theology University of London Ely Professor and Regius Professor of Divinity at Cambridge. He wrote two books on the English Corona- tion Service and one on the Book of Common Prayer together with many articles. (SP)
