About the book >.>.> More than five years ago I felt strongly guided to write on the subject of “the language of God.” I began to think about the subject to read in the field of linguistics and to reflect on my own experiences to discover what the language of God is. Early on I intended to write a short devo- tional tract that would help women and men discern the voice of God in their experiences both individually and as members of congregations. About the time that I began musing over this issue a number of books on discernment began to appear. Some of them dealt with per- sonal spiritual guidance others with spiritual guidance for congrega- tions. I read these with delight and hoped that many would adopt the in- sights shared because doing so would bring people into a deeper relationship with God. In my own writing I began to focus my interest more specifically on issues of God’s speech. If we are to live before God how does God speak to us and how do we ” hear” the voice of God? The speech of God precedes all the issues of discernment. If we do not know that God is speaking to us we need no discernment. What would we be discerning? So I began to think and pray about God’s ini- tiative in communicating Godself to us. How does God speak to us? In what ways does God reveal Godself to us? (LL)
