About the book >.>.> THE German Air Force (Die Luftwaffe) played a major part in World War 2 and for the first part of the war at least dominated the airspace they occupied. Men of the Luftwaffe were to be found in nearly all the theatres of the war either in the air or fighting on the ground as infantry and anti- aircraft gunners. For these reasons if for no other the dress and organisation of this force was varied and complicated catering for extremes of temperature and function found in no other fighting arm in the German service. To cover every single difference and style of wear and manufacture used by the Luftwaffe would need a work many times the size of this present one which is only designed to provide a basic reference guide to this com- plicated subject. All the main orders of dress are dealt with together with common variations and frequently seen modifications enough in fact to provide a basic working knowledge of the subject. No attempt has been made to deal with paratroops in any detail as they have been covered in great detail in another book. My thanks must go to J. K. Wither and L. Milner both of the Imperial War Museum for their valuable help and advice and to Mrs. Sharman and Miss Diane Pullen and my deep gratitude to Herr L. Klein who provided so much of the source and photographic material. (LL)
