About the book >.>.> The U.S. Army deter- mined to motorize itself during its par- ticipation in World War I and the Dodge which had been so successful in Mexico figured near the top of the list of the machines they wanted. The Army procured some 7400 Dodge 4 cylinder passenger cars of which sev- eral thousand saw service in France. They even bought 175 roadsters which helped train troops in the U.S.A. Even more important were the Dodge trucks that the U.S. Army created-the first to bear the Dodge name. The Army made them by taking standard Dodge 4-cylinder passenger car chassis and building a pickup-type “light repair body” on them. These Dodge Light Repair Trucks were very effective in France. They earned a fa- vorable reputation even though only 1012 of them were built and they were used only by the U.S. Army Ordnance Department. (LL)
