About the book >.>.> The six-cylinder chassis cost ?580 and similar bodies it. In addition a few saloon bodies were made and also a ‘hard-top’ saloon where the whole top could be unbolted and stored in the summer leaving the happy owner with a tourer and a parking problem unless he had a very large motor house. The guarantee was for three years thus starting the Lagonda tradition of liberal guarantee periods. The make was already attracting its devotees and The Autocar in January 1912 illustrated a special 20hp Pullman saloon just acquired by a family who already had two other Lagondas. This monster was a saloon on a 12ft wheelbase sporting a body akin to a fair-sized summer house being a ten-light four door said to have ‘ample accommodation’. The performance was not mentioned. In December 1911 the Burlington Motor Co set out on a sales tour of Britain with the 20hp publicising the itinerary in the motoring press and saying that the car was one for the experienced motorist. This could be taken to mean several things not all of them complimentary. The Burlington Motor Co was among the few traders prepared to take old cars in part exchange. This was a fairly new facility old cars hitherto being left to rot and one feels that this fate must have overcome all the Lagondas of the Dark Ages. No car earlier than 1914 survives and it is possible that the all-steel bodies may have something to do with this. Lagonda Cars them- selves were also willing to do part-exchanges and by the autumn of 1912 were taking modest advertisements among the ‘classifieds each week in The Autocar. (MP)
