About the book >.>.> SOME of the prophecies made by me when I wrote this book have already come true. Amongst others I expressed a belief that it would have a special interest of its own when the world had forgotten that the thing we call the motor movement ever had a beginning. That time is approaching and it is at the request of many of my friends late comers into the motor world to whom the romance of the early days is unknown this new edition is issued. The motor-car perfected far beyond the most optimistic dreams of the first pioneers occupies to-day the position of a commonplace necessity and I would remind those who marvel at our early enthusiasm there was once a time when motoring existed as a sport when the pastime had its many faithful followers and when the trials and tribulations of the journey were amply repaid by new experiences. For me motoring has still its old fascination and charm and I do not think as the years go by these will leave me. The motor industry as a business does not add to the enthusiasm of the real car lover but although I miss the novelty of explora- tion of the open road nevertheless the passing scene possesses for me the endearing quality of being an old friend.
