About the book >.>.> The general election of 1852 was a watershed in Bristol political history the Liberal Party establishing a parliamentary hegemony over the Conservatives which lasted for more than a generation. The 1852 Poll Book is the last produced in the City making this the latest date for which we can know who voted. and for whom in Bristol. The 1851 electoral register contained 12550 names which meant that around 35% of adult male Bristolians could vote. 7.929 voted in 1852 and the Poll Book provides occupational or other descriptions for most of them. This edition supplements the listing with an introduction and appendices analysing the voting patterns of different groups and providing biographical details of the leading citizens who voted. (SP)
