About the book >.>.> Conversations are multi-vocal. They are sometimes too early sometimes too late and often soaked in and contemporaneous with the past and future conversations that others have had or will have. They are a form of play and performance the result of which can never be calculated in advance and is never terminated when the conversation is said to be over. They are permanently open to something else outside of themselves. As such and thankfully nothing is ever really accomplished in them. They are a set of voices tongues timbres gazes nods interruptions maps silences presentations enactments of conventions or breaks with those conventions. By virtue of what is spoken and unspoken before during and after conversations they more often than not operate as a series of betrayals translations urgencies provocations collaborations trades and narratives that resist and escape the subjects engaged in them. They unravel like plots without a plot. They form now bright now fading constellations. To complement and accompany Plot for a Biennial we asked artists to present a conversation with one or more interlocutor living or dead imaginary or real. In this way the catalogue includes a series of spoken recorded transcribed written emailed edited and translated conversations and_interviews that are in some instances not quite what they started out to be. In many cases they have been retroactively eavesdropped upon and playfully censored. Fully illustrated the catalogue also includes previously existing and newly commissioned essays excerpts maps curatorial and editorial missives artists statements and manifestos. These dynamic interventions supplement the proposed and emergent themes weaving together actors players plotters and their work in this promise of a biennial – promise in that the book was being prepared alongside and is published to coincide with the opening of a yet inexistent biennial.
