About the book >.>.> About the work The body of polyptych photographic works in the exhibition Portraits in the crowd prosecute the development and notion of a contemporary and tangential approach to the genre of portraiture. This selected group of works intends to address an interest in the idea of social capital and a current idea of the portrait as described through the progression of a narrative. These works are visual fictive tales that suggest sentiments of anticipation desire loss disjointed emotions and perhaps other abstract but universal agendas. All of these images incorporate real historical time and space. drawing on visual information and using narrative conventions to weave an account. This research also tests the process of multi-image presentation in the attempt to tell a kind of story. Cinema has always influenced Masi’s work especially the earlier work which involved making large installations using static and real time elements. This aspect has been a continuing enquiry and is manifest in these recent works – how to propose a still image that might interestingly compete with a moving image. (LL)
