About the book >.>.> In her work for the Pet Shop Boys – a film-installation set for their Somewhere concerts at the Savoy Theatre. London – Taylor-Wood seemed to describe once again the subconscious of a situation: in this case making a group of increasingly drunken and partying people appear like a visual sound-track to the live music being performed by the Pet Shop Boys. As Chris Lowe and Neil Tennant walked out of the ‘real’ time of their concert they reap- peared (and technically this required split-second timing) on Taylor-Wood’s screen within the parallel reality of the filmed party. Thus rather than reacting to the event of live pop music Taylor-Wood’s setting realized the idea of a concert by the Pet Shop Boys the state which their music might seem to convey. In this Taylor-Wood’s art pre-supposes that we live in a society where pop is a given condition no longer sealed within a cultural niche but as ubiquitous as technology itself. (MP)
