About the book >.>.> The extraordinary unity of artistic expression manifested in Czech Cubist architecture applied arts and graphic art demonstrates its truly unique character worldwide. This was a style in its own right unmatched in its scope and cohesiveness of concept by any other country. Just like glass and ceramics furniture was presented at Cubist exhi- bitions on a par with painting sculpture and architecture. In its scholarly and exhibition programme the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague (UPM) turned its attention to this phenomenon in the 1970s when within the museum’s acquisition programme curators Milena Lamarov? Olga Herbenov? Vera Vok?cov? and others were able to acquire superb sets of furniture by prominent designers. Given the range and wealth of its collections of furniture glass ceramics metalwork graphic art book design and posters the first exhibition of Cubism The Czech Cubist Interior was organized in 1976 on the museum’s premises. The first exhibition held in the post-Velvet Revolution period Czech Cubism: Architecture and Design 1910-1925 that explored Cubist architecture and the applied arts was mounted by UPM in partnership with the National Technical Museum in Prague (Architecture Archives) and the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein. In 1991-1993 this exhibition travelled to the Vitra Design Museum Der Kunstverein f?r die Rheinlande und Westfalen in D?sseldorf Museo Espa?ol de Arte Contempor?neo in Madrid Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris the Canadian Centre for Architecture in Montreal and also to the United States (LL)
