About the book >.>.> The market for paintings by artists such as Mary Cassatt Childe Hassam John Twachtman Theodore Robinson and a score of others has driven prices into the seven-figure range. In fact the “market problem” today is not how or where to sell such works but how to locate examples by these and countless other artists of the movement. Of course there have been tremendous developments over the last seventeen years: the reputations of hundreds of American Impressionist painters have been disinterred. There have been scores of investigations of the work of regional artists and art colonies throughout the nation generally manifested in exhibitions. Time and increased study has vielded a consid- erably more authoritative alignment of this phase of American art not only with French painting but with that produced else- where in Europe in Canada and even by Asian artists. Even so American Impressionism appears to have pretty well stood the test of time. This new edition therefore is meant to recognize several needs. Since the demand has remained constant after numerous printings the book is once more made available. An additional chapter affords discussion of the preferred themes among our Impressionists a subject contemplated seventeen years ago but not then addressed. And in-depth consideration is given to those developments of the last decade and a half outlined above. American Impressionism and hopefully American Impressionism will offer satisfaction and pleasure to the twenty-first century. (OS)
