About the book >.>.> Sana garrison was demanding not only arrears of pay but a bonus for its continued support. Many who might have stepped forward to acknowledge him as Imam had their palms been crossed with a suitable amount of silver hesitated to declare themselves. The tribes similarly expecting largesse for their new loyalty became restless when they were not given anything. And finally the Free Yemenis who had reached Sana were bitterly divided and of no help to him. He had only been in contact with them to further his own ambitious purpose and they were beginning to suspect he had been merely using them and had no more intention of liberalizing the Yemen than Yahya. Crown Prince Ahmed who was the Governor of the Taiz region now comes into the picture. Like other members of the Hamid ud-Din family he had been summoned to Sana on false pretences. He had started out but when part way there had suddenly become suspicious and returned to Taiz? where he heard of his father’s death and the proclamation of Abdullah al-Wazir as Imam. Ahmed then went north to Hajja where he had once been Governor and still had a reputation as the vic- torious commander in some of the earlier scuffles against tribes on the Asir border to try and raise the Bakil federation to support his own claim to the Imamate. Prince Hassan a brother of Crown Prince Ahmed and Governor of the Sada region also had not responded to the invitation to Sana. When he heard of his father’s death and the proclamation of Abdullah al-Wazir he declared for Ahmed and set about raising the Hashid federation warriors on his behalf. By promising them a week’s pillaging in Sana if they seized that city for him Prince Hassan persuaded several Mousand Hashid tribesmen to march south with him and lay siege to the capital. (SP)
