About the book >.>.> Thanks to the voluminous efforts of United States historians writing nationalistic patriotic encomiums of their troops’ valiant performance during the War for American Independence (chiefly in the 19th century) the British army in general and the role of the rifle in particular have been very considerably distorted or ignored. These writers often conveved the idea that the victory of the American forces was due largely to the widespread use of the rifle with its superior marksman- ship against the outmoded dullard troops and tactics of the tyrant-king. Fortunately most of this misinformation has died out in books written since the end of World War II but its effects are still with us and the fact remains that from any sample bookshelf of volumes dealing with the American War only a handful would even begin to present the true situation.
