About the book >.>.> Further the development and progress of the Indian Army Service Corps was so connected with similar development and progress of the Indian Army as a whole that most of the time I had to refer to these matters in direct relation to each other. Therefore the subjects of many chapters of this volume are so treated that they should not be read in isolation. During this period the Corps had specialised units like the supplies animal transport mechanical transport and river transport. All these units were designed to carry out special roles but within the field of operations of the Indian Army Service Corps. Therefore its history would be a combined and consolidated history of the activities and performances of each specialised branch of the service and not necessarily of any one of the individual units as is the system in the case of Infantry Cavalry and other fighting arms. There is however no ban on writing the history of individual units even in the case of the Indian Army Service Corps but this had not been the system at any time. The Indian Army was primarily responsible for the opera- tions and administration of the wholly Indian Force in Mesopo- tamia. In the early stages India was responsible for everything in this theatre but later after a year or so the War Office took over the responsibility for the operations. The administrative responsibility of the Force however still remained with India. (SP)
