In recent years there has been a significant increase in the volume of freight hauled on the national rail network resulting in the introduction of new high-capacity wagons growth in colourful intermodal operation and a new lease of life for many older wagons which may otherwise have declined into rust and decay in the engineers’ fleet. Fortunately this growth has been matched by new products from the mainstream manufacturers. Also recognising wagons seen from the lineside and being able to identify them as modelling projects is a very enjoyable part of the hobby.
