About the book >.>.> Tokyo Fuji Art Museum (TFAM) was founded by Daisaku Ikeda President of the Soka Gakkai International on November 3 1983. Since its inception TFAM has pursued a wide array of activities that include promotion of international cultural exchange and special exhibitions held annually in cooperation with museums and cultural organizations around the world. The TFAM collection currently comprises some 30000 artworks. In 2009 we selected representative works across periods cultures and genres to publish Masterpieces from the Collection of the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum. TFAM has now compiled Selected Masterpieces of Japanese Fine Art from Tokyo Fuji Art Museum Collection in response to increasing requests from various circles since then. This publication is exclusively dedicated to the Japanese artworks in TFAM’s collection. It encompasses a broad swathe from early modern paintings ukiyo-e woodblock prints modern nihonga (Japanese-style paintings) modern Western-style paintings and woodblock prints calligraphy lacquerware porcelain and ceramics to feudal weapons and swords. The collection is particularly rich in byobu-e screen painting from the Momoyama and Edo Periods (1573-1600 and 1603-1868 respectively) as well as feudal swords and calligraphy dating back to the Heian Pernod (794-1185) One special feature of our collection is the insight it affords into the changing styles of lacquerware and armor with examples of armor and helmets from the Muromachi to early modern periods. Six hundred fifty seven pieces were carefully selected for presentation in this publication. It is our hope that this catalogue will not only arouse interest in TEAMS peerless collection in all those who leaf through it but encourage the reader to view these priceless artworks at the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum in person which we believe will be an immersive experience in humanity’s rich history and broaden now and into the future the vistas of one’s imagination.
