About the book >.>.> This is the Diamond Jubilee year of our Sovereign Elizabeth II. The only other Diamond Jubilee of a British monarch was that of the Queen’s great-great grandmother Queen Victoria in 1897 so far our longest serving monarch. There is little recorded history of Sissinghurst village so in celebration of the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II a snapshot of the village around the time of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee is presented and of the people and places influencing its development over the years. What is recorded is not complete and will contain errors and omissions but it is based on available information and on villagers best recollections. References to current and recent villagers have been excluded as far as possible to avoid intrusion into private lives but they will also one day be history. As a history can never be complete we hope that corrections can be made and further details added and that this can be built on as the years go by. (LL)
