About the book >.>.> It must have been two hours later when Dave woke to a room grey with cold moonlight. He wondered how it had entered so narrow was the slit between houses on which their window looked. Reflected moonlight it must be harsh and very pale. He soon knew what had awakened him – the door was being opened slowly inch by inch. He lay watching it. It was the girl who had fled from him that afternoon. She materialized rather than stepped into the room. Her feet and legs were bare and she wore a short shapeless dress. She did not hesitate but moved with mysterious confidence. She closed the door behind her and stood by it smiling. Dave had an uncomfortable feeling that she could see clearly in this semi-darkness. He could just distinguish a smile on her face. She had come he supposed to attempt a minor robbery and he held himself ready to jump out of bed and grab her if she picked up anything. But after a moment having distinguished between the two sleepers she crossed the room silently to his bedside. (SP)
