About the book >.>.> Welcome to the second collection of excerpts from Continuum’s acclaimed successful and sometimes peculiar 33 1/3 series. For those who don’t know it’s a collection of short books each one dedicated to a particular album from the last forty or so years. Some of the books are straight journalism some are intellectual critiques some are miniature memoirs and some are straight fiction. But all we hope are inspired by the album in question and shed some light on what makes it special. In this book you’ll find extracts from volumes 21 through 40 in the series-books that were originally published between April 2005 (Elvis Costello’s Armed Forces) and December 2006 (Joni Mitchell’s Court and Spark). Looking back on this period of the series it definitely starts to veer toward what’s commonly known as “indie rock.” That was never part of the plan but there’s a fair amount of that in here: books on albums by Jeff Buckley Neutral Milk Hotel (at the time of writing the best-sell- ing book in the series so far) the Pixies Stone Roses Nirvana My Bloody Valentine Guided By Voices and Sonic Youth. As the series moves forward you’ll see more books on hip-hop metal the unclassifiable (Tom Waits Throbbing Gristle) and yes on Celine Dion. (LL)
