Some have found difficulty even in this state- ment chiefly in consequence of the phraseology of Gen. xi. 2 which has been supposed to denote that the place where the ark rested was east of the plain of Shinar whereas the Ararat of Armenia is west of it. But the phrase ren- dered “from the east” may be translated “eastward” or with Kalisch “in the east. (MP)
