About the book >.>.> In the Biblioth?que de L’Arsenal in Paris is a most interesting and beautiful heraldic manuscript known as MS 4790 and this is the source and inspiration of this book. A few of the equestrian knights from it have been constantly reproduced and are probably well known to most of our Readers but until now they have never been presented as a collection in an English publication. We have not been able to include all the figures some of which are incomplete and a few left blank in the original but illustrate the majority of the most interesting historically artistically and heraldically. Fifty-three are shown out of the 78 complete figures in the original and a list is given of those omitted on page 25. The coloured illustrations of the knights are taken direct from the original manuscript. The colours of the shields have been indicated by “tricking” as was done in the 16th and 17th century Visitations. The Symbols A for Argent G for Gules etc. (see page 222 for full details of Abbreviations) have been written in on the relevant parts of each shield.
