About the book >.>.> THIS carefully compiled and well written record of the fortunes and services of the West Somerset Yeomanry in the Great War will be found most interesting not only by those most nearly connected with all ranks of that gallant Regiment but also by those who study the doings of the British Army. I congratulate the writer on the result and I recognise the hand of my erstwhile Brigade Major Capt. R. C. Boyle. The Regiment and the Brigade-were the poorer when he was selected to return to England from the seat of war to acquire the final polish at a school of instruction for officers in Staff duties thereafter to be appointed to another Brigade. As Brigade Major he had little to learn being to the manner born and possessing all the necessary qualities. As a companion he was priceless. I take this oppor- tunity of expressi tunity of expressing my appreciation of his true value. What the Regiment owes to Colonel F. Shuldham and to Capt. Boyle for their zeal and devotion in the arduous times which had gone before I can testify. Those that followed in their footsteps. reaped the benefit of their good work. (LL)
