About the book >.>.> JOHN N. COLLINS completed postgraduate studies in the Bible on the eve of the Second Vatican Council at the Pontifical Bibical Institute in Rome and at the Ecole Biblique in Jerusalem. In 1971 he returned to bible studies at the University of London King’s College where he researched the origins of the Christian concept of ministry. This doctoral work attracted two awards for further research during 1976-77 at the Ecumenical Institute in Tantur Israel. His pathfinding work which includes a comprehensive criti- que of contemporary trends in the theology of ministry was published in 1990 under the title Diakonia: Re-interpreting the Ancient Sources. The same year he wrote the present study during a fellowship from the Ecumenical Institute Collegeville Minnesota on sab- batical release from high school teaching in Melbourne where he lives with his wife and two middle teenagers close by the beaches of Seaford.
