About the book >.>.> At the AGM of the Masters of Foxhounds Association in June I asked Masters to look at their countries in five different ways in order to assess whether their pack was viable in every way. Where the answer is ‘No our country does not pass one or more of these tests’ there are a number of options that hunt chairmen and committees might consider. Amalgamation with an appropriate neighbour is obviously one answer perhaps with two packs going out on Saturdays. But where a hunt has sufficient country but neither the cash nor the manpower to maintain a proper standard at kennels then it might be sensible to consider sharing a base with another pack whilst remaining independent. Or if a country can survive without altering its boundaries. it may simply be a case of eliminating those meets where modern pressures make it totally impractical (if not actually dangerous) to hunt. We must not see these changes in a negative light. We must see them as positive adjustments that need to be made in order to secure the future of modern hunting. I am certain that such alterations are best when they emerge from local hunt level. The MFHA and our team at the Hunting Office will do all we can to advise and encourage Masters and Chairmen who are looking at long term plans.
