About the book >.>.> There have been many books’ written about the Peninsular War from those of the participants – for example W.E.P. Napier Rifle- man Harris and the many other diarists – through the later history of Sir Charles Oman to more recent shorter works by Charles Esdaile Ian Fletcher David Gates Jac Weller and many others which in the main deal more with the political and general aspects of the War at a less detailed level. Our intention in this book is to examine individual battles in some detail and to provide as compre- hensive and accurate orders of battle as we are able for each one. Copious notes are provided where various interpretations of the data are possible and we give our reasons for opting for that interpret- ation we consider the most valid. Consequently we trust that the work will afford a novel perspective for the historian while being of practical use to wargaming and re-enactment organisations alike. The ‘Notes for Wargamers’ sections are clearly distinguishable from the purely historical text so that they can be studied separately. We have included some campaign background since we judge that this is essential to an understanding of the specific battles but we wish to make it clear that we are not offering a detailed history of the War.
