About the book >.>.> The end of 1934 the chief of the army command (Heeresleitung) recorded that the leadership of the SS had been given permission to form a so-called “police reinforcement” of up to 25000 men from the ranks of the General SS (Allgemeine- SS). The personnel were to have completed their military service and be between 35 and 45 years of age. While the SS men were members of this police reinforce- ment the Wehrmacht’s right of disposal in the event of mobilization was suspend- ed-meaning that the men could not be called up by the army. Under the pretext of police-related duties during mobilization the SS thus had the capability of forming a reserve with the strength of at least a division. As there were already plans to incorporate this potential-at least in part-into the fighting units of the SS at a later date in 1938 the age requirement was lowered to 25 to 35 years of age. (LL)
