About the book >.>.> The publication of this catalogue is aimed at acquainting wide circles of consumers with carpets produced in the main areas of carpet production in the RSFSR: Dagestan ASSR and neighbouring autonomous republics and territories of the North Caucasus regions of the Central Russian strip and Western Siberia Kursk Voronezh Penza Kurgan Tyumen Chelyabinsk and others. Three types of carpets are most widespread in these regions: smooth (lint-free) terry and pile carpets. In pre-revolutionary times carpet weaving was dominated by extremely primitive techniques. Carpet weavers had to wash and comb wool spin and dye woollen yarn themselves spending almost half of their working time on this. It was only after the Great October Socialist Revolution that conditions were created for the full and wide development of carpet weaving. Carpet weavers were united into industrial and cooperative artels which were centrally supplied with ready dyed yarn looms tools and technical designs. In their creative work carpet weavers are assisted by technical specialists and artists. (OS)
