About the book >.>.> The reminiscences and anecdotes in Close to Glory were contributed by the writers artists and photographers who served on YANK magazine in WWII. They also came from original correspondence exchanged between the editor Joe McCarthy and overseas press correspondents during the war. Many of these letters cables and V-mail were recently dis- covered in a trunk in the basement of the home of Dennis McCarthy the son of Joe and were made available to the editor by his widow Mary McCarthy. These sources plus the con- tents of personal diaries and notebooks comprise this fresh new record of the war. Together they provide accurate first-person accounts of men reporting a war under intense pressures releasing their emotions in humor and in some cases recording their abhorrence of war. (SP)
