About the book >.>.> This is study of such colour schemes and modes as Glazed-tiling Stucco and Painting and stone Inlay and Mosaic (including Glass Mosaic) used for architectural decoration in Mughal buildings from Akbar to ShahJehan (A.D. 1556-1658) with a thorough historical background. It traces the origin of each art to the remotest antiquity and interprets the hitherto obscure techniques and styles with a view to identify the sources of inspiration and to define the colourfulness of Mughal Architecture. Its first 1970 edition was long out of print and a second one was greatly needed. Much has been thought over worked and learnt during the last two decades and it called for a thorough reconsideration of the things and revision of the data. It has been accordingly revised and updated though the original scheme of chapters (I. Introduction; II. Glazed-tile Decoration; III. Mosaic Inlay and Glass-Mosaic; and IV. Stucco and Architectural Painting) and sub-heads has not been altered. Errors and omissions of the previous edition have been corrected and the work has been updated by additional data (e.g. on Man-Mandir Gwalior Picture-Wall of the Lahore Fort Wazir-Khan’s Mosque Lahore Ajanta Tajmahal Fatehpur Sikri and the Theory of Indian Painting). Illustrations have been revised. Some plates have been replaced by better ones and some new are added to make it more illustrative and useful to the reader. The scheme of printing has also been revised to make it perfectly readable. (SP)
